Testimonials

Hi Norbury. We spent the day with you on Saturday 11th November and WOW what a fantastic day we all had. From the moment we arrived you made us feel so welcome and the cherry on the top was that you upgraded us to Pioneer. What a wonderful surprise and it absolutely made our day. We were so impressed we are going to return with my father and book another day boat (hopefully Pioneer again!) and myself and husband are going to also book a weekend break with you next year. A massive thank you to all of you who made our day so special and regrettable didn't get any names, but will definitely be back again next year. Thank you.
Kim Evans. 12/11/2017.

We hired The Shropshire Star on Saturday 26th August for our Golden Wedding Party. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Your staff were excellent. We were impressed with the effort that was put in to make everything really enjoyable. Please pass on our thanks to whoever made the cakes, they were delicious. Thank you once again for making our evening so enjoyable. The Fish and Chips were excellent, hot and thoroughly enjoyed.
Ian and Sandra Spence. 28/08/2017.

Hi All, Once again we would both like to thank you all for the help you gave us. I know we were paying you for a job to be done but you all went well above expectations and we came away making many new friends. We were disappointed to leave you and hope to pop in to see you before the end of the year. If all goes well we may try to get the boat back up there for a few weeks next year. Best wishes to you all and once again many thanks.
Alistair and Lisa. 07/05/2017.

I just want to pass on my thanks for the canal trip last night; it was great fun. The beer went down a little too well. Lucy was great fun and even put on a bit of a disco at the end. Thanks again.
Sean Spinetto. 28/04/2017.

Thanks so much for all of your help and support! We rushed off as we have a lot of ground (or even water) to cover and couldn't see you anywhere but wanted to let you know how much we appreciated your friendly warm welcom and advice in the face of our million questions. We will be spreading glowing reviews to anyone in need of boat services. All the best.
Rob and Becky. 13/02/2017.

Hi David, I would like to thank you and your colleagues for making Maurice's surprise 50th birthday party such a great day, on Saturday. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves aboard The Shropshire Star, especially Maurice who was completely surprised and delighted by the whole experience. One to remember for a long time! I am sure the trip will be recommended to others by our friends, as well as us. Thank you again.
Helen. 25/10/2016.

Excellent place to visit for a great family day out. We had a day hire canal boat and the staff were really friendly and helpful getting us going. We were able to do as we pleased on the canal as long as be got the boat back for half four. Would definetly recommend it for groups of up to 10 people. There's also a tea room with outdoor seating and a pub just on the other side of the canal for a drink to calm your nerves after turning a canal boat around!
Thomas Barnett. 12/09/2016.

We went on the cream tea excursion this afternoon at 3.30pm and would like to say a big thank you for arranging three hot chocolate drinks esepecially for us. Great setting and lovely tea shop too.
Gill Hinton. 04/09/2016.

Dear David, One of our members approached you to help sponsor the recent Norbury Canal Festival. You were kind enough to supply us with promotional leaflets including a 'welcome letter' with two discount offers of 10% discount on docking and blacking during May and June, plus the bags to put these items into. I know that they were used to help promote the event to the boaters in the rally and also promoted the good name of your company. I wanted to personally thank you, as it is only with support of companies like yours that we can run this event each year, which greatly helps our charity realise its objectives. Please also pass my thanks to Simon and the rest of the team at Norbury.
Bernie Jones. Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust. 06/05/2016.

A great night on 12/03/2016 aboard The Shropshire Star on a Fish and Chip cruise. Well worth waiting for! We hope to have another night like it. Your colleagues were very welcoming. Thanks once again.
Pat Ferris. 14/03/2016.

Hi to all at Norbury Wharf. Just wanted to say thank you to your team at Norbury for the chance to relax and have a great time together on your boat, we all had a great time, reception, training and boat was excellent (as were the sandwiches upon arrival). We're looking forward to the next visit for the Fish and Chip supper. Can't wait to come back with a bigger team! Thanks again.

Dear David Ray. I am writing to thank you for allowing one of our students to undertake a week of work experience at Norbury Wharf Limited for the week of 13th to 17th July 2015. It was of great benefit to have this opportunity to experience and learn about the world of work and also made an important contribution to the pupils personal development. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank you for finding the time to offer support and a place for students from Blessed William Howard. Yours sincerley.
Mrs. L. Organ. 01/10/2015.

Hi. I just wanted to say many thanks for yesterdays trip aboard The Shropshire Star, we had such an amazing afternoon. Can you thank you team on our behalf.
Clair Hollis. 12/10/2015.

Hi David. Been meaning to write for ages, and have finally sat down to do so. Just wanted to let you know that we really are extremely pleased with Little Wing. She has attracted admiration wherever we have cruised and someone on our home mooring thought that we'd bought a new boat. All the best.
Steve and Lynn Barrett. 28/07/2015.

Hi. Just wanted to say thanks for all the help with the sale of Rosie M. Made it to Solihull over the weekend, had a great journey so far! Kind regards,
Jake Weir. 27/07/2015.

Dear David, I am writing to say a big thank you for fixing our boat last week. If you remember we had a leaking stern gland. You were so efficient in ordering the part and getting one of your kind engineers to fix it on Friday morning. Once again many thanks for your help. Best wishes.
Dave and Margaret Perkins. 08/07/2015.

Dear David, As a Senior Reviewer on Trip Advisor, as soon as I return home next week we shall be writing a very positive report of my week cruising with Norbury Wharf. To you personally, I would like to congratulate you for having excellent, helpful and friendly staff and for giving myself and my partner a superb narrowboat experience.
Ken Peck. 03/07/2015.

Dear Norbury Wharf. We would really like to thank you for all you did in making our 80th birthday Day Boat Cruise such a memorable occassion. We have now visited your empire three times and each time we have been impressed. All your staff it seemed went out of their way to be helpful and we cannot say a big enough "thank you to the kind ladies who organised the "Tomato Sauce Banquet". Naturally we blame Joyce who was our guiding light and who couldn't do enough for us. We are very pleased that she didn't resign! We may even come again. Our very best wishes.
Howard Orme. 26/04/2015.

Hi David, I have just got home after taking Still Dreaming to her new mooring and wanted to thank you and your team for the support you have all given over the last couple of years. I had hoped to see you last week but ended up getting my car from Norbury late at night. Once again many thanks for the work you have done for us and maybe we will return one day. All the best.
Steve Giggs. 23/04/2015.

Cant speak highly enough of Norbury Wharf's service, attitude and professionalism . Have been using them for the past five years, never been disappointed or dissatisfied. Do what they say when they say they will do it and more. Most conscientious, long may they continue!
Philip Woodgate. 08/04/2015.

Just to let you know that my filters and oil arrived OK for our Isuzu 42 engine on the good ship Merryweather. Thank you very much for excellent service. Kind regards.
Les Merry. 01/12/2014.

The boat (Phantom) handles well, and as we cruised the canals around Birmingham the sun shone and all was perfect with the world. Mobile telephone muted. September and October were certainly the icing on the boating holiday. The staff at Norbury were as wonderful as usual, no problems. A great holiday and now we have to think of 2015 and which canal do we cruise?
Jean Show. 03/11/2014.

Had a fantastic day yesterday, thank you, its what memories are made off, can't wait to hire a boat again.
Ian Munday. 25/09/2014.

My husband and I attended one of your evenings on Friday 5th September. We would both like to say thank you for a lovely evening. Your staff were very friendly, the Fish and Chips were delicious. It made a lovely change to our normal Friday night. Many thanks.
Julia and Steven Baddeley. 06/09/2014.

Dear David. I just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you to you and your staff for making our trip; aboard The Shropshire Star on Friday, so enjoyable. With kind regards.
Julie Wrigley. 01/08/2014.

Hi. Keys arrived yesterday, many thanks and thanks again for our lovely week holiday on Summer Wine, we all had such a good time. Hope to see you again soon. Regards.
Brad Perry. 31/07/2014.

Dear Simon, We are sorry that we didn't get chance to meet you during our stay in your dry dock but we just wanted to let you know how happy we are with the results of the work that has been carried out, and we have been made to feel welcome by everyone we have met.

Peter did the blacking and the counter bands. Since having the counter bands done we have become slightly obsessed with looking at everyone elses along the cut and we have to say that he has done a marvelous job, ours are perfect with the lines perfectly cut in. She now looks fantastic!

The changing of the engine mounts was problematic. Bernard and Mick worked tirelessly on a very hot day to fix the vibration. We began to get a little bit stressed but David assured us that everything would be OK and we would be happy before we left. Ofcourse he was right - a different set of mounts and it was perfect again.

So, thank you for having us and a great many thanks to all of your team. We have been well looked after and if we get any problems in the future or need any cosmetics putting right we will be heading straight for Norbury.

Many thanks, Yours sincerely.
Martin and Diane Long 17/07/2014.

Hi Simon, Thank you so much for such an impressive booking, confirmation and payment, wow! Warm regards.
Elaine Baigent. 02/07/2014.

Hi Simon, I wanted to thank you and your team for helping us to have an enjoyable holiday. You were right Phoenix was different to the normal hire craft and on several occasions attracted comments about how nice it looked and disbelief it was a hire boat. Your suggestion to take a detour to the Caldon was also good advice.
Colin. 20/05/2014.

Simon, David and staff. Just a note to say thank you for the service you have provided. See you soon for the next stage of renervation! Kind regards.
Kate. 19/05/2014.

Third year running on your hire boats. Fantastic! Will be back next year.
Nigel Booth. 19/05/2014.

Really good weekend. Very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent value for money. Will book again!
Catherine Hayes. 19/05/2014.

Only four days out on your hire boats, wished it had been four weeks!
David James. 19/05/2014.

Helpful suggestions on routes to take, thank you. Friendly and very helpful staff. Boat equipt with all we needed.
Coline and Trudie Hollis. 17/05/2014.

Excellent experience all round. Will definitely recommend to others.
Colin and Gail Ashton. 17/05/2014.

Just seen that the money is my account. Many thanks for the way you handled the sale and for finding a buyer so quickly. I shall be asking you about a mooring when I get another boat!
Jim Davies. 17/04/2014.

Good evening. A note of thanks to you and your team for the good service - particularly when a damaged part (on the stove) was replaced without request and not just left for another time. I'll be in touch regarding booking your dry dock in August. Mick - thank you for taking the coal to the boat!
Martin Hutton. 12/04/2014.

Just a quick email to thank you for our free week on Phoenix. We're sorry that we weren't able to take advantage of the full week but we have a very busy year and time off work is at a premium. However we thoroughly enjoyed our few days of peace and quiet. Phoenix is a joy to handle and her engine runs very sweetly. Hopefully we will be back soon. Many thanks to all at Norbury Wharf. Kind regards.
Lorraine and Colin Lintern. 19/02/2014.

Dear Simon, On behalf of all members of the Potato Club I would like to express our appreciation to you for the donation of a Day's Boat Hire for our annual raffle. We had an extremely successful show and were pleased to be able to donate £300 to Midalnds Air Ambulance and £300 to Stafford Headway (a local charity supporting brain injured adults and children).
Susan Smith, Treasurer Haberdasher's Arms' Potato Club. 28/11/2013.

Dear David, Once again, I would like to thank you and your colleagues for the thoroughly professional job that you did to market and sell my boat in what can only be described as "record time". I am sure like me, Simon and yourself must also have been surprised at the speed of the transaction. Kind regards.
Gerald Whitworth. 14/09/2013.

Dear Simon and David, I would like to convey my thanks on behalf of Gnosall and District Community First Responders to you both for allowing us to invade one of your narrow boats on Sunday 8th September. It certainly was a test of our ingenuity to be able to successfully spine board a patient out of the boat. As you probaby know, we are a group of volunteers who are trained by West Midlands Ambulance Service to respond to emergencies within a six mile radius of Gnosall. The value to the group of being able to undertake scenarios "out in the field" cannot be over estimated and we were very grateful to be given this opportunity. Thank you once again.
Jan Hewes. 11/09/2013.

I would like to say a thank you to the staff onboard The Shropshire Star last Friday. Myself and my wife had a lovely evening.
Craig Jones. 22/08/2013.

Just to say a big thank you to you all for all your help over the last seven months. Simon, David, Ange, Mick, Simon, Bernard, Denise and all of the other staff. You have looked after us so well - from devising a new layout for our engine room and painstakingly ordering bespoke parts, to 'board and lodging' way above and beyond the call of duty; from months of free electric on a top mooring with a penthouse view, to hauling us across the marina for pumpouts - you've been amazing. Heartfelt thanks!
Ray and Claire Walmsley. 19/07/2013.

There is a whole world on the canal that most people don't ever get to see. What a great experience! Thank you for organising such great weather!!
Greg Blunden. 13/07/2013.

To you all. I have just read your blog and seen how well you have done. I am so pleased for you all at Norbury, you all deserve it, you all work so hard from the management to the cleaners and all inbetween. That is the reason that I use your boatyard, and I see many of my blogging friends have also used the yard recently. Great stuff and good luck for this year with your new trip boat and no doubt all the bookings for the boats this summer. Great stuff you lot!
Sue. 07/05/2013.

Dear Simon and David, Gayle and I want to personally thank you for making our stay at the Wharf a memorable and productive time. Your facility, staff and surroundings are welcoming and we look forward to returning this summer and using the Wharf as a base for some time to come.
Tom Norton. 04/04/2013.

Hey All! I am the manager of children's charity "The Boathouse Youth" in Blackpool and we have just hired three boats from Norbury Wharf Limited to take thirty youngsters on a seven day trip along the Inland Waterways. I would just like to tell you all what an AMAZING and LOVELY company this is! The staff are ALL incredible and could not do enough to help us... the boats are stunning... the service is outstanding. More hire companies should operate as these guys do. All the staff even lined up to wave goodbye to our children... I mean seriously, where does that happen these days? You are the BEST and I can't wait to work more with you!! Love, The Boathouse Youth!!!
Laurance Hancock. 23/02/2013.

Last week we; two Dutchmen, were at your Wharf with Indulgence for diesel and a coolant problem. Your engineer could not find the cause of the constant loss of coolant and ended up by tightening a Jubilee clip just to be sure and the advise was to keep on monitoring.
The next morning we could not start the engine for he must have touched the multipin socket. It was fixed promptly and without charge.
I am happy to report that it must have been the clip for we have had no loss of coolant since.
Thanks again for your excellent service.
Kind regards, Kees Meijler. 06/08/2012.

Just a note to say thank you for the recent work you carried out on my boat.
The Adverc and the Sterling battery management panel are working well. It is great to be able to check what is going on.
Please pass my thanks onto Angela for the curtains. The boat seems much warmer for them and they have been admired by all my visitors.
I hope you have a good Christmas. Happy New Year.
David Alcock. nb. Tom Bombadil. 08/12/2012.

On behalf of all members of the Potato Club I would like to express our appreciation to you for the donation of a days Boat Hire for our annual raffle.
We had an extremely successful show and we're pleased to be able to donate £250 to Katharine House Hospice and £250 to Prostate Cancer.
Susan Smith. Treasurer, Haberdasher's Arms Potato Club. 28/11/2012.

Thank you for a job well done and at a reasonable price plus keeping me informed and advising me. It was much appreciated.
Derek Ramsden. 03/11/2012.

Goodbye to all of our friends at Norbury Wharf and that stretch of the Shroppie. We've had a fantastic 13 years moored at Shebdon with both nb Sextans and nb Chalford. Looking forward to our new mooring at Higher Poynton on the Macc with our new boat nb Bracken. Thanks Simon and David for all the help and advice - see you when we're down that way again.
Lynn Barrett. 27/09/2012.

Just to say thanks again for your friendly help and advice despite the awful weather over the past couple of days. We have reached Market Drayton with no problems so your expertise has saved our day. Well done and see you next Spring for the hatch and blacking at least.
Best regards, Gil and Chris Ritson. 27/09/2012.

Just emailing to say thanks so much for the excellent service that we received on our break aboard Phoenix earlier in this month. The break was just what we needed. We found all the staff at Norbury Wharf very helpful and loved the boat and the holiday.
We are looking at booking Princess perhaps in April next year - after Easter, for a few weeks (I think we are hooked!) this time with more crew.
Many thanks for everything.
Regards, Rob and Charlotte Macdonald. 28/08/2012.

Good afternoon. Last Thursday we brought our boat to your Wharf to get some diesel and to ask whether an engineer could have a look at the engine as she used a lot of coolant.
Your engineer did a thorough search, but could not find the cause of the problem, as everything worked as it should and he could not detect any leaks. Just to be sure he fastened the Jubilee clips, as one of them seemed to be a tiny bit loose, but we thought that this could not be the source of the problem.
We are now very happy that we can let you know that we have no more coolant leaks, so the tightening of the clip solved the problem. We checked the level in the engine every morning before setting off, as we always do, and up until now the level has stayed steady.
We are pleased with the way your engineer tackled the problem and his way of behaving towards us was very pleasant.
Thank you very much!
Regards, Kees Meijler and Helen can den Boog. 07/08/2012.

I felt that I should email you just to thank you for providing us with a most wonderful holiday last week aboard Phantom.
Last June my partner suffered an illness and I decided that we would book a week aboard Phantom with yourselves; basically a goal for her (and I suppose also me) to aim for.
The holiday came along just after all her treatment and was just what she needed after a grueling, but successful, six months of treatment.
We couldn't have asked for better weather, your boats and all of the staff are a credit to you and we had an absolutely fantastic, relaxing holiday.
Thank you again and we will definitely be hiring from you again.
Kind regards,
Tim Boyle and Lesley Jones. 30/05/2012.

I Just wanted to say thank you very much for your help with our trip yesterday. The boat was super and had everything we could have wanted. We had a lovely day and really enjoyed our experience. I have the feeling that it may be a yearly arrangement now.
Thanks again.
Lyn Marklew. 31/10/2011.

I hired two day boats from you yesterday and wish to say thank you very much. They were both clean and tidy, the best to hire anywhere! May I also thank you for your kindness when my car would not start and you helped me to get the AA out. I did appreciate it. It was my husband who had left the lights on.
Yours most sincerely.
Betty Carlyle. 15/09/2011.

Good afternoon to all at Norbury Wharf. My wife and I would like to say a very big thank you for all your help with buying our boat. We moored there only a short time but were made welcome very quickly. The friendly atmosphere you and your staff put out is second to none. We have now moved nearer to our home due to the dreaded M6! Big thanks to David who helped out on the lifting day which went very smoothly, we will definitely buy our next boat from Norbury.
Many thanks again and good luck with all of your future plans for the Wharf.
Kind regards, Paul and Anne. 02/09/2011.

Just dropping you a line to say how much we enjoyed our week on Ember recently. We managed the four counties in fine style - so thanks for the advice.

Just to say thank you so much for sorting out our faulty battery which we left with you about a month ago. We had a phone call to say you were refunging our card for the full amount of the replacement one we had to buy. It is very much appreciate that you went to the trouble to sort it out for us. Norbury Wharf has a very good name amongst the canal boat owners and users and I can fully understand why. You are all very friendly and helpful and I just wanted to let you know how grateful we are. Many thanks again and here's hoping you have a really good season. Yours most sincerly.
Sheila and Mike Gilman. May 2011.

Hi, I recently hired your day boat and had such a wonderful time I'd like to book it again for an anniversary.
Andrew. March 2011.

Thanks for the guidance of coach route to Norbury Junction - all went well and most of my party had coffee with you. One said you had "cakes to die for"!
Joan and Ian Moss. March 2011.

You may remember that having broken down at your yard on 04/08/2010 my son and I subsequently needed your organisation to effect temporary repairs and source and fit a replacement alternator to our boat...
We were all very impressed with the welcome, and level of customer service your team provided.
I don't think enough people say thank you for excellent customer service.
So, thank you very much for your efforts in getting us moving again, it was much appreciated.
Yours sincerly
M and E Court. August 2010.

Just a quick note to say how impressed I have been with the service provided at Norbury Wharf.
I am a part owner on NB Yelvertoft and arrived for the first time on Friday to be met by smiling helpful staff that answered my queries so that I am now hopefully aware of the system that you operate. . .
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this and look foward to returning in August. The move to Norbury is proving to be very positive.
Thank you again.
Best wishes.
D. Cox. July 2010.

Just a note to say how pleased we are with the way the boat has been painted.
It has been beautifully done. Many thanks to all who did it.
Best wishes
Mr. Fordham. July 2010.

A recent visit to Norbury Wharf, has left me feeling refreshed and relaxed. So much so, that I thought I would share my thoughts with others.
Staying at Wharf Cottage places you right at the heart of things. The lounge with it's big red comfy sofa's, stretches across the whole loft space at the top of the cottage and is huge. There is an open brick fireplace with wood and coal stacked ready to use if you fancy making a cosy fire later on. There is also a large kitchen dining area at one end. At every turn, where-ever you sit, your eyes will come to rest upon stunning views through the many windows that let the light flood in, giving you a sense of being outside. At the back of the lounge through the french windows, there is a large veranda, with table and chairs, perfect for sitting and taking in the surrounding countryside.
Looking down on the Wharf at the front of the cottage with its little Bistro and chandlery shop, is interesting to say the least. The narrow boats come in and out with silent precision stopping for services and supplies. The Bistro is buzzing with visitors taking tea and coffee or the odd glass of wine out on the terrace, and the surrounding flowerbeds are planted up with beautiful spring blooms and the grass is cut and edged to perfection.
Gazing down upon the scene, it's hard to resist going outside. There are many walks you can take around the wharf. Some of the boats have permanent moorings and have little patches of garden with vegetables and herbs. Across from the cottage is the Junction Inn public house with it's terrace and gardens. Looking from the Junction's terrace back across to the Bistro, it's easy to spot the tall dark commanding frame of Simon, the proprietor of Norbury Wharf, as he strides around keeping everything in sight; and David, his manager, who's expertise belies his young age. Always at hand to service the private boats as they arrive and to coach the people who have hired a day boat or a larger boat for the week from Simon.
The fishing is also very good here. I have it on good authority, that the canal is teaming with carp. I actually saw a man pull a 2lb Bream out yesterday, followed by a slightly smaller one. He told me he had only used sweet corn as bait! It's the simple things like that as you stroll around, that have you un-winding in no time at all.
The Bistro is still busy at 3pm and is headed by Jude, a partner in the business. Mick, another partner who is also Jude's husband, can be found in the dry dock, dealing with the repairs on the many boats that pass through.
The staff work seamlessly together at Norbury Wharf to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, and as I sit back with a nice glass of wine on the Bistro's terrace I think I may have stumbled upon a little piece of heaven. Thanks Guy's!
