REF: 10153 BOAT NAME: Joseph PRICE: £55,000.00 COMMENTS: Joseph was built in 1898 as an open dayboat for use on the Birmingham Canal Navigations. Original ownership is believed to of been by J. Batson and Company and later passing to J. Marsh Jnr of Dixons Green.
When Joseph was originally constructed she measured 71 foot x 7 foot with a carrying capacity of 38 tons and was allocated BCN number 16314.
She was expertly converted by Richard Hurley and is a fantastic example of a lovingly restored historic narrow boat. Her original stern end was removed and a motors counter was added. All of her seams and rivets were welded below the water and then the whole boat has been overplated upto the water line. An all steel cabin was also fitted with 'Northwich style' handrails. Joseph is powered by a genuine Lister JP3 marine engine complete with Blackstone gearbox with traditional controls. Her engine is cooled by a skin tank fitted to the swim - "no need for continuously checking for the water coming out the side and when it's not, cleaning the mud box out!"
Some of her unique features adding to her character include T-stud, dollies, ramshead, deck lid hinges and day tank off of a FMC fish class motor boat. Grand Union style mushroom vents for the entire length of the cabin top. Her counter and swim is very much like that of a Josher steamer and that along with her large blade makes her travel very well.
Joseph was docked, blacked and professionally repainted by Norbury Wharf Limited in September 2007.
Her internals need some updating but the basics are there and she is ready to go boating! Large water tank. Hot water via Paloma water heater, 12v and 240v ring main throughout with land line connection. Although an inverter is not currently fitted it could be easily fitted within the engine room. Gravity fed central heating provided via a cast iron 'black leaded' range in the galley with back boiler, copper pipes for the length of the boat and radiators in the saloon and the bedroom. Classic stove in the back cabin.
Joseph's layout comprises of a traditionally decorated back cabin, engine room and workshop. At this point there is a solid steel bulkhead across the boat, which could be easily removed and a second bedroom, study or utility added. Next is a double bedroom, large wardrobe, bathroom, large living area and then the galley. Her front well deck has a cratch and brand new cover fitted.
This boat comes complete with all running equipment ie. ropes, plank, shafts, mop, chimneys, etc.
Joseph is a solid boat, she must be seen and needs to go to a loving home. |
